This past weekend I had the pleasure of meeting the owners of the up and coming TopSea Wingz, which is set to make landing in Hampstead in early May! My family of five moved here from Augusta, Georgia where wing stops are on every corner, including Chinese takeout places. If you’re scratching your head, that means you can get ANY flavor of wings alongside your fried rice and lo mein. This is something I thought was available everywhere until I learned it was regional after our move.
About The Owners of Topsea Wingz
Enter Lonnie and Autumn Mathis, another family of five who moved here from Georgia! The Atlanta metro city of Stockbridge, Georgia to be exact. Lonnie is a Deputy Sheriff in Pender County, while Autumn is resigning from New Hanover hospital to operate their new spot full time, and I couldn’t admire them more. Starting a small business is always a challenge and a risk, especially during a pandemic, but Lonnie had a cousin with a desire to open up a wing spot and a lightbulb went off in his head to do the same. That, coupled with the fact that his son was always wanting lemon pepper wings!
Now, you’ll have the choice of that flavor and more!
Autumn revealed the following flavors:
- Mango habanero
- Garlic Parmesan (my FAV!)
- Old bay (which I’m excited about!)
In addition to wings, they will have: fries; fried pickles; cheese curds, cheese sticks, burgers, and side salads. Multiple flat screen TVs for your viewing pleasure line the corner spot, that used to be Charlie Grangers. New, outdoor patio seating is perfect for soaking up the sun and sopping up some ranch dressing with your Buffalo wings!
The corner spot offers a hometown feel that often comes when an eatery is family owned. They’re a family of 5 and have a projected May 8th opening date, depending on inspections, equipment, and supplies.
