If you’re looking for the arts and culture that you normally find in a big city, you don’t need to look far in our area. The Onslow Winds Community Band and Jazz Ensemble are here to provide great music in the local community and best of all, if you play a musical instrument, you could be our next member!
The Onslow Winds Community Band is group for people who play a concert band instrument and wish to get involved in their local community. Membership is voluntary, and our musicians include teachers, military spouses and service members, retirees, high school and college students, and other community members. If you enjoy playing marches, show tunes, movie themes, holiday music, and other concert band literature, this group is for you! The community band is active from March-August and during the holiday season. New members are always welcome, from Topsail to Swansboro.
The Onslow Winds Jazz Ensemble performs at community events throughout the area. Past performances include the Sneads Ferry Shrimp Festival, New Bern Mumfest, Jacksonville Winterfest, and numerous private and charity events. The jazz ensemble’s repetoire includes big band classics like “In the Mood,” “Moonlight Serenade,” and “Sing, Sing, Sing.” The group is active throughout the year and membership is determined by instrumentation.
Both groups rehearse at Southwest High School in Jacksonville, NC. For more information about joining Onslow Winds or to see a schedule of upcoming performances, visit our Facebook page or go to our website.
