I remember how I felt last year when I heard that we were getting a new coffee spot in the ferry. I couldn’t believe it. It was something that I had been wanting and hoping we would get, but I had settled on knowing that walk-in trips to Starbucks inside Harris Teeter was my permanent situation. When the news broke, I started following the progress of its opening with sheer excitement. I remember the owner, Katie Rochelle, posting a video where she was discussing the craft and concept behind what kind of drinks they would be offering. She also shares, via her Instagram @coffeehavennc, that she graduated from UNCW with a bachelors degree in communication studies and a minor in psychology. She adds that, “after years of struggling trying to find a job and career path, God opened this door for me.”

Well, I couldn’t be more grateful, because from the first time that I tried Coffee Haven, I have been a fan. I have tried iced and hot variations of my favorite drinks. I am a fan of caramel, vanilla, and chocolate flavoring in coffee and they have plenty options catering to this. But, their menu is diverse and has an option for every tastebud. I went several times in one week when they first opened, and from there I now visit at least once a week.

My favs:
- The lunar eclipse (chocolate, caramel, and vanilla)
- Caramel crush (salted caramel, coconut, and caramel drizzle)
My CURRENT fav is the hot version of “the salty beach” (pictured), with almond milk. It is so creamy and lush with salted caramel, white chocolate, and caramel drizzle. I live for the luscious, homemade whipped cream on top. I personally prefer all the drinks hot, which is funny because for the longest time, I was a lover of iced or blended coffee drinks. I guess this is a new season of coffee for me. However, they are a exceptional both ways.
More than Coffee
Pssst…guess what I found out today via their Instagram? They are now offering MATCHA LATTES! You guys just don’t understand. When they first opened, I asked them if it was offered and it wasn’t at the time. While I am the definition of a coffee lover, I fell in love with matcha later on in life due to its earthy, creamy taste and health benefits. It is my favorite hot drink, and I have always relied on Starbucks (sighs) to provide it. Not anymore! Matcha within five miles or less?! I haven’t tried it yet but I already KNOW it’s going to be amazing based off my experience with their other drinks. I suggest having your matcha latte made with coconut milk:). It’s delicious hot or cold.
Matcha is finely ground powder of specially grown and processed tea leaves.

Cruise on by for a cake pop as well, because Coffee Haven has those too! They offer strawberry, vanilla, and my personal fav, red velvet, and it’s delicious! A dessert shop by the name of “Sweetheart’s Desserts” makes these from scratch and they are moist, bite-sized treats that melt in your mouth! They are a small business, based out of Jacksonville, and I simply love it when small businesses collaborate on offering their awesome goods. My little ones tried these and now they want one every time!
How are you treated when you drive up to CH? Like an extended part of family. When we first started going, we would roll up to see Katie either by herself or with her hubby and parents, and our hearts were immediately touched. We knew that starting a business is one of the hardest feats you could tackle and we could tell she was tired from working long hours. A smile was always on her face though, and we would encourage her and tell her how grateful we were to have her in town.
Since then, there have been new faces put in place, as she has hired on baristas to help and I couldn’t be more enthused for her. All the new faces are just as nice and helpful.
