A few Friday’s ago, we had the pleasure of trying Chef Bud Taylor’s unveiling of his modern take on roadside burgers, called CBT Burger Food Truck.

Food trucks are regularly hosted by Nicole Schmidt, owner of The Crooked Lotus taproom, and CBT Burger was the latest installment in what has been a delicious year of food on wheels, thanks to her vigilance in consistently booking an exciting variety of food trucks in the Ferry.
CBT Burger is owned and operated by James Beard Award winning Chef Bud Taylor and his wife, and they’re bringing one of the BEST BITES of BEEF I’ve EVER had! If his name sounds familiar, it’s because he used to run The Bistro at Topsail which had an impeccable reputation in Surf City, where he used local and seasonal ingredients. He even had his own farm, where he grew ingredients. Impressive.
I’m BIG on BURGERS, so the excitement was overwhelming for me! Heavy rain and frigid cold didn’t stop us! We lined up and I tried the following menu items:
- The Classic: double patty|double American|melted onion special sauce house pickles
- The Goomba: double patty| double havarti arugula confit mushrooms lemon aioli
- Crispy Chips with chefs seasoning-delicious, even the kids loved them!
What makes a good burger to me?!
Melted cheese, toasted bread, and quality, seasoned beef that’s tender. Well, CBT Burger was ALL of that and more! As I mentioned before, it’s a modern take on the classic burger, so don’t expect regular, run of the mill ingredients (like lettuce)…he uses fresh greens and exciting, unique ingredients as you can see above.
