Blessing of the Fleet
The Blessing of the Fleet is a long-held tradition in many coastal towns where fishing is important to local identity. These communities can trace their heritage in fishing back through generations. The job can be dangerous and the sea, merciless. As a way to remember those who have been lost and show admiration for those who continue the tradition, the Blessing of the Fleet offers a way to show appreciation for fishermen and their families.
Sneads Ferry
For 20+ years, local pastors have come together to organize this event here in Sneads Ferry. This year the Blessing of the Fleet will be held at Fulcher’s Landing Boat Ramp on April 6, 2019. The Blessing will begin at 11 am with a brief ceremony and a boat processional. A Reading and Silent Remembrance will follow to commemorate departed fishermen. Nancy Edens and Melodie Raynor, two local women involved in our fishing community, work to compile a list of boats in the current fleet and another list of those who have died so that their names can be recited and remembered. The Blessing of the Fleet honors those who are integral in our history and still today part of the fabric of Sneads Ferry.

We look forward to seeing you out there for a great Saturday of fellowshipping with friend, neighbors, and local church pastors.
